About Mike

Mike Ostaffe

Hello. My name is Mike Ostaffe and I am asking for your vote to serve you as a member of the Maple Grove City Council.

My family and I moved to Maple Grove almost 19 years ago and have enjoyed every minute of it. I have been married to my wife for 30 years and our three children started Kindergarten at Basswood and graduated from Maple Grove High School.

I have been active in the community for almost two decades as a youth sports coach, school tutor, Chairman of the School Board, a member of the Maple Grove Lions, and a member of the Planning Commission appointed by the Mayor and City Council. It has been a pleasure to work with so many great residents during that time.

We live in the best community in the state, and it has taken steady, fiscally responsible leadership to get us here. I will continue to be a good steward of our resources and our plans for the future. I have attended City Council budget and strategic work sessions and regular meetings for many years, and for the past three and a half years I have served on the Maple Grove Planning Commission. I have worked closely with the Mayor, Council, and Staff on several key projects that have come before us during that time. I understand the issues currently facing our great city and am ready to serve on the City Council.

Today I humbly ask for your vote for Maple Grove City Council. Thank you.

Important Issues

Public Safety

Public Safety is the key to being a great place to live and do business. Residents want Maple Grove to continue to be a safe place to put down roots, build their lives, and raise their children. Businesses want a safe and secure environment for their customers and employees.  We need to continue to attract, support, and retain well-trained firefighters, police officers, school resource officers, detectives, and staff.

Infrastructure

Maple Grove is facing water, roadway, facilities, and community center projects with a financial impact of well over $200M dollars.  Decisions on project prioritization and funding of our Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) will be critical to providing the reliable services we need for our families and businesses, both now and in the future.

Parks and Recreation

Our parks and recreation system is a shining jewel in Maple Grove. Thousands of residents and their families walk or bike the trails every day, enjoy one of our many neighborhood parks, or visit one of our recreation destinations such as Central Park, Fernbrook Fields, or Town Green. We need to continue to make good investment decisions for our parks and programs and make these and future amenities available to all of our current and future generations of residents and their families.

Economic Development

We must continue the thoughtful process of economic development with respect to attracting new development projects and businesses and planning the infrastructure needed to support them. We need to guide that growth in an economically responsible manner.

Taxes

Our budget, and future tax levies, are under pressure from inflation, rising wages and healthcare costs, and staff additions and capital projects needed to maintain our growing city.  We need to assess every budget line item to reduce the impact on taxes while maintaining a healthy, safe, and vibrant community.
